Lonavla And Khandala |

Situated about
60 km from Pune (110 km from Mumbai on the Mumbai-Pune Highway),
Lonavla and Khandala are beautiful twin hill stations, 622 m.
above sea level, in the Sahyadri ranges that demarcate the Deccan
Plateau with the Konkan coast. The hill stations sprawl over
an approximate area of 38 sq km
These popular holiday destinations are lush and beautiful during
the monsoons. People prefer visiting Lonavla and Khandala in
the rainy season. Lonavla and Khandala were discovered in 1871
by Sir Elphinstone, the Governor of the Bombay Presidency. The
name Lonavla is derived from the Sanskrit lonavli, which refers
to the many caves like Karla, Bhaja and Bedsa that are close
to Lonavla. A trip to Lonavla and Khandala can be combined with
sight-seeing visits of Karla, Bhaja and Bedsa caves and also
the two fortresses, Lohagad and Visapur. |

Lonavla and Khandala are two charming little hill

Climate
of Lonavala
Lonavala experiences a pleasant climate throughout the year
except the monsoon months. Summers are mild and winters are
cool. April to June are the summer months. Winter continues
from November to February. Heavy southwestern monsoons arrive
between June and September. October to May is the best time
to visit the hill station. |

of Pune University. Established in 1948, the University has
since become one of the leading centres for research and teaching
in the country. The 400 acre campus is located in the North
Western part of Pune. The placid environs and state of the art

The University of Pune (formerly known as University of Poona)
was established under the Poona University Act, passed by the
Bombay Legislature on 10th February, 1948. In the same year,
Dr. M. R. Jayakar assumed office as the first vice chancellor
