Industrial Visits at BAIF, Sewage Treatment
Plant of Pune Municipal Corporation in the last academic year
by the different departments like the Microbiology, Biotechnology,
Computer Sc. have helped in getting the practical aspect of
the knowledge that the students get in the classrooms.
Study Tours to Water Purification Plant,
Sericulture Institute Wai, Central Bee Research institute field
station Mahableshwar, Ambe forest gave an insight to the how’s
and why’s of the theories.
Co-Curricular Activities
INDUSTRY - ACADEMIA FORUM (IAF) Through
its various interactive workshops and deliberations provided
a platform to the students for them to be exposed to their environment
where they will find themselves tomorrow. Year long series of
guest lecturers by experts/ resource persons from industries
culminated into a 5 days workshop (3 days indoor session and
2 days outdoor visits). This year IAF 2005 was held in January
2005. The inaugural session was graced by the keynote speaker
Mr. Deepak Shikarpur, Chairman IT Committee,
MCCI and Chairman CSI. The sessions over 3 days included diverse
industry experts from BMC Software, Dynamic Logistics, Serum
India Ltd., Emcure Pharmaceuticals etc. The Academicians of
international repute like the following had attended
1) Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan (Professor & Director, Interdisciplinary
School of Health Sciences, University of pune.
2) Dr. Pramod Khandekar (Director, Bioinformatics Department,
University of Pune)
3) Prof. Dilip Deobagkar (Department of Zoology, University
of Pune)
The two days deliberations included visit to Institute of National
repute and various Software & Hardware industries.
Sci-Matrics --- Science Club
is the brainchild of our young minds. It is an official platform
for nurturing ideas of the students. Their inquisitiveness
and urge to explore and experiments sees them dabbling with
small projects in various sects of Microbiology, Biotechnology,
Geology, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Environment like

Placement Activities
Our college takes active interest in students’ training
and placements. Even at undergraduate level, our regular industry
interactions have helped us achieve remarkable placements for
our students right from first year for collaborative projects
with industries and organizations like BAIF, NWA, advertising
agencies and automobile dealers to name a few. For their final
year placements with companies like

More than 80% of Final Year students have secured placements
with the above companies. To ensure that our students are well
prepared to take the campus interviews a preparatory workshop
(2-3 days) is undertaken every year for these students which
takes them through Communication tips, Presentations (personal
presentations too) right etiquettes and mannerisms, groups discussions,
industry scenario and most importantly aptitude tests and mock
interviews.
Language Club enabled the students
to increase their language proficiency through the Club floated
by the College. Also enhanced were, the communicative, cultural
and vocational benefits of language studies. Visit of the Delegation
of the German students to the college, Hindi Kavi
Sammelan, were some of the activities of the Club.
Parent Teacher Association
has been active in monitoring the all-round development of the
students. The parents and the home environment too contribute
a lot to a development of the students. Hence it is vital to
have parent-teacher interaction on a regular basis to assess
the student's mental growth. This was achieved through an active
Parent-Teacher Association.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Group Discussions held inside the classrooms
and on the Common stage nurture confidence and generate ideas.
Case Studies are taken up regularly to enable
the students to develop the analytical skills.
Debates held round the year helped in expanding
students’ intellect and teaching them the art of standing
out distinctly in a crowd. A big auditorium with a PA system
in college comfortably accommodates all students.
Quiz has been a regular
activity in the campus. The college students
have been doing the college proud by winning accolades in Indian
Institute’s Metallurgy quiz. Participation in national Olympiad
for Science and Mathematics has brought awards for distinctive performance.
Sports Activities have been nurturing the fighting
spirit and a never-say-die attitude. Sinhgad College of Science
and Commerce have made a mark in sports at the Zilla Parishad
and National Level too.
