PARIKRAMA’06 an
intercollegiate event scheduled on November 14-15, 2006 to kickstart
co-academic Geoinformatics exchange among students, practitioners
and industry. This would provide a platform to students for
face to face interaction with the industry counterparts.
The event will comprise of paper presentation by students, technology
presentations from the industry and lead project by students
encompassing various application areas in Geoinformatics.
The participants and audience would comprise GIS practitioners,
industry and institutes offering Master’s programs in
Geoinformatics, earth sciences and Geography.

The Industry Academia Forum (IAF)
was initiated in the year 2005 to inculcate a pragmatic
approach and provides a platform for one to one interaction
with the industrial sector and to have an inside view of the
industry and environment. This forum has been started with the
view to bring together the industry and academics to bridge
the gap and find ways to compliment each other.
This Year IAF 2007 is scheduled on January
15th - 18th ,2007.
The detail of this proposed event is as follows

One of the important spin offs of the space
research is satellite based remote sensing which facilitates
synoptic view, repetitive coverage and provides multispectral
and multi resolution data.
Integration of remote sensing with Geographic
Information system Technology has enhanced its capabilities
in the areas of resources management. The application areas
are increasing dramatically. It is massive task to transfer
these new technologies to end-users for operational purpose.
GIS are often seen as a multipurpose technology, which can satisfy
the needs of a variety of users. The process of transferring
this technology from laboratory to real world organizations
is complex and problematic.
The training must provide users with sufficient knowledge to
be able to handle geographic information as well as the computer
technology.
In light of the above-mentioned scenario, Sinhgad
Technical Education Society (STES) at it’s Sinhgad College
of Science proposes to start a focused and dedicated, industry
oriented Post-graduate training program in “Remote Sensing
And Geographic Information System” commencing from the
current academic year.
The requirement for such a focused program
is an outcome of the realization of the need of the course that
was derived from interactions we have had in various industry
academia interactions across the country in last 2 years.
It is realized that GIS Industry represents one of the major
growth areas in technology in the coming year and that the lack
of trained manpower is seriously hampering the expansion of
this industry. |
