The Department of Biotechnology was started in the year 2006 with an intake of 60 students for UG Program in Biotechnology. The course is designed to give an engineering edge to the study of biology and give a new perspective to biotechnology.

The Department has exclusive and well equipped labs to conduct practical based on the biology subjects like Molecular biology, Cell biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and interdisciplinary fields like Bioseparations, Fermentation Technology etc. The Department has high end equipment like HPLC, Gas Chromatography, PCR, Lyophilliser, Fermentor, UV Visible Spectrophotometer, Cell Culture Facilities etc. for carrying out research projects. The students are provided hands on experience on cutting edge technologies like Western Blot, ELISA, Lyophillisation, Fermentation Technology, Genetic Engineering and Animal Tissue Culture.

All the departmental facilities are accessible to the students for carrying out their work during the working hours. In addition, the labs are open to students for additional two hours every week day and weekends under the supervision of their respective project guides. The labs are well maintained with a nice ambience. There is enough space in the labs for a batch of 20 students to work simultaneously and get a chance to get hands on experience of the equipment.
