The department of Mechanical Engineering is a part of the Sinhgad College of Engineering, since its inception in 1996. The department has grown geometrically from an intake of 60 to 300 for its UG program. The Department also runs four post graduate specializations in Design Engineering (Intake 18) Heat Power Engineering (Intake 25), Mechatronics (Intake 18) and Automotive Engineering (Intake 18).The Doctoral Research Centre is also functioning in the department since 2007- 08 and 35 research scholars have been registered.

A Mechanical Engineer could be brought in various coreareas like Automotive Engineering, Energy Systems, HeatPower engineering, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning andMechatronics, etc. and the department has developed the state of art laboratories required for the same. Besides teaching, the faculty is involved in consultancy work inprominent areas like Design and Development, Energyauditing, Industrial Sickness Evaluation, and Testing. The research work of the faculty has been appreciated by DST, AICTE, BCUD for funding.

The Department, in Collaboration with M/s Thermax Ltd., Pune, has devised a one year training program called“Thermax Graduate Program” for the Science graduates employed by Thermax. This program is running successfully since 2008.

The students are participating in various technical competitions at national level. Our department team has secured the first prize of Rs. 1.00 Lakh for ergonomics and aesthetics in SAE BAJA event in 2014. The students of the department have also secured the first prize in Autodesk competition in 2014 and a prize in the ASME project competition.

The students have won prizes in National level Auto Quiz competition as well as paper presentation competitions. Mr. Harshal Parhate secured all India 97th rank in GATE 2014 and Mr. Rohit Pandhare secured 319 marks in GRE2014

Above all has helped the department to get accredited for next 5 years by the National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi (NBA) in 2014.
