NES Award Report

A project ‘Sign to Speech’ done by Pratik Shah, Shubham Jadhav, Ashutosh Wadhvekar, and Parag Hoshig of B.E. Computer Engineering, NBN Sinhgad School of Engineering got the first prize at ‘NES Innovation Awards 2017’ on 2 nd March,2017. Students received the award, a trophy and ` 50,000/- from Padma Vibhushan Dr. R. A. Mashelkar.

Natrajan Education Society received 4000 applications for ‘NES Innovation Awards 2017’ out of which 80 where shortlisted from which ‘Sign to Speech’ selected for the first prize. This project helps speech-impaired people to have better communication with everyone. This projects uses a glove equipped with sensors which senses the finger moments and the recorded gesture is sent to smart phone to analyze the gestures and corresponding word / sentence is displayed on smart phone’s screen as well as can be heard on the smart phone at the same time. A machine learning algorithm is used to store the generic gestures and also the user can create customized gestures and store them for later use. This project is guided by Prof. Avinash M. Bagul.
